Nursing is my passion and has been for over 40 years. I am fortunate and grateful for the variety of roles I was part of, which has only enriched my career, but I feel we are going in the wrong direction. My mission is to inspire and encourage others to speak up. If we can start a movement together, have discussions and share ideas, we will create solutions. We have to work together and create a change to improve our healthcare system before it "dies". Together, we will have the power to make a difference.
To begin, I see a lack of communication, which is the reason for failure. I see limited discussions between nurses and physicians. There is a disconnect with other team members such as Leaders, Patient Care Techs, Therapists, Housekeeping, Food Services etc. Communication connects all these pieces and is the cornerstone to grow and achieve success of the organization as well as enabling trust among the leaders and the team. We need to make communication part of the culture.
Most importantly we cannot forget the patients, communication is important. It is not a quick in and out of the patients room. We must be attentive, active listening, speak clearly, accurately and honestly, confirm understanding and have empathy.
There is so much more to touch upon and I look forward to hearing from you!
I have worked in different areas of healthcare. I am not a nurse. I have observed the decline in patient care, Customer Care, and even some inconsistency with doctors. It saddens me to think of what the future may hold for our children and grandchildren. I have worked over 45 years in different facilities, including urgent care clinic. I hope our bringing our views will make a difference for our future in our healthcare system.
I’m on board, I have been a nurse for 47 years and I am seeing the same thing, nothing has changed. It’s gotten worse among communication b/t doctors, nurses and patients. It seems as if no cares anymore because it’s all about money and profit. When I first became a nurse all hospitals were non profit. Now look at it. Bottom line no one cares anymore. It’s scary!!!!
I couldn’t agree with you more! In a few days I will celebrate being a nurse for 50 years, and yet in many ways there is nothing to celebrate! It seems that people are “diagnosed” with a Chronic disease and then placed on medications and a regimen that keeps them a repeat customer for the rest of their impaired lives. I welcome the conversation! Bring it on!
